All Souls Day Prayer Service

A special prayer service for All Souls Day took place Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. in the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center chapel.

Sister Ann McGrew, Center director, led the prayer service.

Ursuline Sister Mary McDermott read a letter from Paul to the Thessalonians that began, “We do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, about those who have fallen asleep, so that you may not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose, so too will God, through Jesus, bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”

As participants gathered in a circle, Sister Ann McGrew lights a candle in remembrance of her friends and family who have died.

Employee Sheila Blandford lights a candle in remembrance of loved ones.

Sister Margaret Jacob CDP lights a candle during the remembrance ceremony.

Sister Marilyn Hoffman CDP takes a turn lighting a candle for her friends and loved ones who have passed away.

Sister Ann McGrew, Sister Marilyn Hoffman, and Sister Margaret Jacob take part in praying the Our Father and reading Psalm 23. Sister Marilyn and Sister Margaret are Sisters of Divine Providence, a religious community based in Melbourne, Ky.
