Sister Joyce Marie Cecil celebrates 60 years as an Ursuline

The next Ursuline Sister celebrating a jubilee of religious life in 2024 is Sister Joyce Marie Cecil, who is celebrating 60 years!

Sister Joyce Marie, a native of New Hope, Ky., is a creative person who loves poetry and always enjoyed her time teaching young children. She earned her degree in elementary education from Brescia College, Owensboro, Ky., in 1968, and her master’s degree in elementary education from Western Kentucky University in 1977. Her former religious name was Sister Lisa Marie.

 

She was a teacher in Kentucky at St. Brigid School, Vine Grove (1968-71), St. Martin School, Rome (1971-74), St. Francis School, Loretto (1974-75), St. Leonard School, Louisville (1975-76), St. Alphonsus School, St. Joseph (1976-80), Christ the King School, Madisonville (1983-84) and St. Christopher School, Radcliff (1980-83, 1986-88). She was also pastoral minister at St. Christopher Church in 1986. She taught in Missouri at Sacred Heart School, Poplar Bluff (1984-85). She served in New Mexico as a teacher at Cristo Rey School, Santa Fe (1988-91) and St. Teresa School, Grants (1991-94), as well as serving as pastoral minister at St. Teresa Parish (1994-95).

 

Sister Joyce Marie served at the formation house with the Emmaus community in Owensboro (1995-96) and was pastoral minister and director of religious education at St. Pius X Church, Calvert City, Ky. (1996-2003). She served at the Ursuline Motherhouse as activities assistant in Saint Joseph Villa (2005-07), receptionist at the Conference and Retreat Center (2005-10) and as librarian assistant (2010-20). She is retired at the Motherhouse and active in the Powerhouse of Prayer.
