Sisters respond to call for prayer and fasting for Middle East peace

The Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph are responding to a call from the bishops of the Holy Land and the American bishops to participate in a day of prayer, fasting and abstinence for peace on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2023.

Eucharistic Adoration will take place in the Saint Joseph Villa Chapel at Maple Mount from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 17. Space does not allow the Sisters to invite the public to join them in person, but the Ursuline Sisters do ask others to join them in solidarity during this time to pray for peace as violence escalates in the Middle East.

Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, on behalf of all the Ordinaries of the Holy Land, said in a letter to the global Catholic community, “We cannot let death and its sting be the only word we hear. That is why we feel the need to pray, to turn our hearts to God the Father.” The request for prayer, fasting and abstinence is made to parishes, religious communities and families.
