Sister Melissa Tipmore celebrates 60 years as an Ursuline Sister

Our eighth and final Sister celebrating a jubilee of religious life in 2024 is Sister Melissa Tipmore, who is celebrating 60 years!

Sister Melissa, a native of Owensboro, Ky., is known for her excellent organizational skills and for always offering a listening ear to those in need. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Brescia College, Owensboro, in 1968, and her master’s in elementary education from Western Kentucky University in 1976.

Sister Melissa was a teacher for 29 years. She taught in Kentucky at St. Francis of Assisi School, Loretto (1968-72), St. Alphonsus School, St. Joseph (1972-73), Mary Carrico School, Knottsville (1973-76), St. Peter of Alcantara School, Stanley (1976-77), Holy Name of Mary School, Calvary (1977-80), St. Joseph School, Mayfield (1980-82), St. Romuald School, Hardinsburg (1982-83), Immaculate Conception School, Hawesville (1987-88), St. Pius X School, Owensboro (1988-89), Bishop Henry J. Soenneker School, Owensboro (1989-92) and Sts. Simon and Jude School, Louisville (1993-97). She also taught at Lourdes Elementary School, Nebraska City, Neb., (1983-87).

She has served in internal ministry at the Ursuline Motherhouse as coordinator of transportation (1998-2017), assistant to the archivist (2017-19), and since 2019, coordinator of the library.
