Sister Laurita Spalding celebrates 60 years as an Ursuline Sister

Our next Sister celebrating a jubilee of religious life this year has dedicated more than a half century as a teacher — Sister Laurita Spalding!

Sister Laurita, a native of Springfield, Ky., is celebrating 60 years as an Ursuline Sister. Sister Laurita is known for being a creative teacher for 54 years, and a talented craft maker, including embroidering quilts for the Mount Quilt Club. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Brescia College in 1968, and her master’s in elementary education from Western Kentucky University in 1977.

All of Sister Laurita’s ministry has been in Kentucky. She taught at St. Peter of Alcantara School, Stanley (1968-72), St. Paul School, Princeton (1972-73), Precious Blood School, Owensboro (1973-78, 1983-89), Immaculate Conception School, Hawesville (1978-83) and Bishop Francis Cotton School, Owensboro (1989-2000). From 2000-2022 she taught at Holy Name School, Henderson. She now volunteers at Holy Name School and Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Henderson.
