Sister Joan Riedley celebrates 60 years as an Ursuline Sister

Our sixth Ursuline Sister who is celebrating a jubilee in 2024 is Sister Joan Riedley, a native of Louisville, Ky., who is celebrating 60 years!

Sister Joan was an innovative teacher who continues to share the joy of music with others. She earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Brescia College in 1967, and a master’s degree in elementary education from Western Kentucky University in 1971.

Sister Joan taught at St. Peter of Antioch School, Waverly, Ky., (1967-68), then in New Mexico at St. Teresa School, Grants (1968-76) and St. Joseph School, San Fidel (1976-77). She taught at St. Teresa School in Glennonville, Mo., (1977-86) until returning to her native Louisville in 1986, where she has served the past 38 years. During that time she taught at St. Matthias School (1986-92), then as a parish minister at the church (1992-2008). She served as a parish minister at the church where she was baptized, St. Denis, from 2008-2009. St. Denis merged with St. Helen to become Mary Queen of Peace Parish, where Sister Joan continues to serve as a parish minister today.

Congratulations Sister Joan!
