Ursuline academy students learn about caritas at Brescia University

“As people called to love, what do we need to know?”

That was one question posed to 24 high school students from Ursuline academies around the country on Sept. 15-17, 2022. They came to Brescia University in Owensboro, Ky., for a retreat titled “The Caritas of Angela: Love Through Ursuline Education” sponsored through the Ursuline Education Network.

Sister Pam Mueller, director of campus ministry at Brescia, dressed as Saint Angela Merici and told the story of the founder of the Ursuline Sisters in the first person to the students, to show how Saint Angela’s teaching is still relevant today. There were four students each from Ursuline schools in Dallas, St. Louis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Cleveland and Wilmington, Del.

In September 2021, Brescia partnered with the Ursuline Education Network to host a conference titled “Love, Peace and Ursuline Education in the 21st Century,” funded by the Lilly Foundation and UEN. Grounded in caritas theology, educators at the high school and college level gathered to learn about how Angela Merici’s teaching weaves together with caritas – our universal call to love.

Here are some photos from Sister Pam’s presentation on Sept. 16.
