Storm Damage–Memorial Day Weekend 2019

Strong winds, thunderstorms and some hail that spread across Kentucky came through St. Joseph on Sunday afternoon, May 26, toppling two historic trees at Mount Saint Joseph, and causing limb damage to several other trees.

Sister Amelia Stenger, congregational leader of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, stands next to the Norway Spruce that fell at the corner of Cummings Road and Kentucky 56. This spruce tree was planted by Father Paul Joseph Volk between 1885 and 1895, Sister Amelia said.

This maple tree on the front of the Maple Mount campus along Kentucky 56 also fell during the storm.
This limb was lost along the Rosary Walk near the Christ the King statue. None of the statues on campus were damaged.
This tree between the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center and Cummings Road lost a major limb.
The cedar tree to the east of the Our Lady of Prompt Succor statue lost this major limb.
This apple tree to the west of the cemetery was destroyed in the storm.
