Sister Ruth Mattingly, OSU: September 22, 1935- November 1, 2018

Maple Mount Sister Ruth Mattingly, 83, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Nov. 1, 2018, at Mount Saint Joseph in her 62nd year of religious life. She was a native of Loretto, Ky. Her former religious name was Sister Walter Ann Mattingly.

Sister Ruth was a loyal friend who loved being of service to others, first as a teacher, then in health care and parish ministry. In recent years she enjoyed making baby quilts.

She taught at St. Bartholomew School, Buechel, Ky., (1958-66), Immaculate Conception School, Hawesville, Ky., (1967-72), St. Denis School, Louisville (1972-84), St. Teresa School, Glennonville, Mo., (1966-67), and St. Joseph School, San Fidel, N.M. (1991-93). She ministered in personal and pastoral care at the Motherhouse infirmary (1984-91) and was coordinator of the Guest House (1993-96) at Maple Mount. She was a parish minister at St. Joseph Parish, Leitchfield (1996-2005).

Survivors include her sister, Esther Kraft, of Louisville; two brothers, Walter Mattingly of Louisville and John Mattingly of Lexington; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.

The funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Mount Saint Joseph, where visitation will begin Sunday at 4 p.m., with a wake service following at 6:30 p.m.
