Reflective Moments with Angela June 2021

By Sister Marietta Wethington

As we turn our calendars from May to June, I muse about what needs turning in my life. Pope Francis reminds us that God created all people in equal dignity and asks us to turn from all that is not healthy and turn to all that will help us create a world without poverty, hunger, violence and war.

“I can’t do that,” I tell myself. No, I can’t do it all. However, I can make a difference even if it is only in the life of one person.

Saint Angela Merici, in her Last Legacy, tells us that if, according to times and circumstances, the need arises to make new rules or do something differently, do it prudently and with good advice. She believes that Jesus will be in our midst and teach us what has to be done.

I believe that Saint Angela would advise us to turn from sin, to repent and to believe in the Gospel. Are you willing to make those turns as you turn your calendar page?

I have been trying to educate myself on the origins and effects of racism, since the death of George Floyd. I feel that his public execution was sent to our country as a gift of grace. May we all turn that page!
