Reflective Moments with Angela for August 2021

By Sister Marietta Wethington

Do you find it difficult to slow down, relax and just be? If you do, you are most likely typical of many Americans.

Jesus often went away to a deserted place to rest and be with God, the one he called Father. He invited his apostles and disciples to do the same. I believe he invites us to do that as well. I suggest some ways of doing so.

Walk outside when the weather is nice at a deliberate slow pace. Leave your cell phone and any other technology devices inside. Sit in a swing or a chair, consciously empty your mind of worries, cares or stresses. Quietly repeat a line from Psalm 41, “Be still and know that I am God” over and over until it becomes a part of you.

Saint Angela Merici’s biographers tell us that she spent her mornings in prayer and her afternoons in service to others. Prayer leads to service and service is enriched by prayer. Reflect on the times when you have found that to be true in your life. Thank God for those times and resolve to be faithful to the call.

It is good to spend time with God in Prayer. I do it every morning and do other things in the afternoon. Thank you Sister Marietta for this reflective moment.
