Reflective Moments March 2021

By Sister Marietta Wethington

Pope Francis has declared this the year of Saint Joseph, recalling the 150th anniversary of Saint Joseph as patron of the Universal Church. March is usually thought of as the month of Saint Joseph. His feast day is March 19.

We live here at this place called Mount Saint Joseph, so it seems appropriate that our reflection this month be about Saint Joseph.

Scripture doesn’t tell us a lot about Saint Joseph. Matthew’s gospel tells us of the struggle Joseph had when he learned his beloved Mary was with child. An angel came to him in a dream and told him Mary’s child was conceived by the Holy Spirit. Joseph believed.

Saint Angela Merici, too, had a dream or a vision. In her dream she learned she was to form a Company that would empower women and children. Angela believed.

Sometimes we struggle with the Word of God, however we hear it. Perhaps like Joseph and Angela, we need to trust and ask God to help us believe.

    Thank you, Sr. Marietta.

This piece is both profound and simple: like Joseph and Angela!

I am grateful that you identified the “struggle” they share with us. Another of our Sisters and i agreed over the weekend that our mutual motto for Holy Week is: Trust the Holy Spirit!
