Reflective Moments August 2019

Do you like to color? I do. Why? For me it is an excellent spiritual practice that draws me inward to the center of my heart where I meet God. When I feel overwhelmed, anxious or stressed it helps me so much to pick up a coloring book or an art pad and color for a while.

Do you have trouble falling asleep at night? A helpful suggestion: turn off all electronics, including television, and spend some time coloring. Many people in our country live with high stress. It is almost an epidemic. People who color are discovering a way to pray that no one ever taught them. Some people like quiet music playing in the background. It is amazing how the benefits of coloring are so similar to the benefits of quiet meditation. Adult coloring books can be found in several bookstores, along with crayons, colored pencils or markers. Maybe you prefer a child’s coloring book? I have used those, too, from time to time. It really doesn’t matter what kind of book you use. It is the exercise that is valuable.

I highly recommend coloring as a spiritual practice.

Reflection:

How open are you to the idea of coloring as a spiritual exercise?

Sister Marietta, what a good idea. I enjoy and am inspired by your reflections. I know I need those quiet times at the end of the day. Although I am a gifted sleeper I need those quiet moments to wind down.
I hope you are having a good summer. I don’t like to see it end but am looking forward to the season to come.
    Love to you!
    Jean
