Sister Robert Ann Wheatley, OSU

Sister Robert Ann Wheatley, 91, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Easter Sunday, April 8, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 72nd year of religious life.

A native of Cloverport, Ky., Sister Robert Ann was an excellent cook and quilter, skills she learned from her mother. She loved sharing the good news of God’s love with all those she ministered to, and she was a great University of Kentucky Wildcat fan.

An educator for more than 30 years, she served at St. Anthony Convent, Peonia, Ky. (1942-45) and Holy Trinity Convent, Fredericktown, Ky. (1945-47); She taught at St. Charles School, Bardwell, Ky. (1948); St. Benedict School, Wax, Ky. (1948-51); St. Paul School, Leitchfield, Ky., (1951-54, 1968-69); St. Catherine School, New Haven, Ky. (1954-59), St. Lawrence School, St. Lawrence, Ky. (1959-60); St. Anthony School, Axtel, Ky. (1960-62); Holy Cross School, Holy Cross, Ky. (1962-63), St. Elizabeth School, Curdsville, Ky. (1963-64); Sacred Heart School, Farmington, N.M. (1964-67), St. Pius Tenth School, Owensboro, Ky. (1969, 1981); Precious Blood School, Owensboro (1970-71); Lourdes Central School, Nebraska City, Neb. (1971-73); St. Joseph School, Central City, Ky. (1973-74); St. Ann School, Howardstown, Ky. (1974-75), Immaculate School, Owensboro (1975-80), and at St. Joseph School, San Fidel, N.M., (1981-83, secretary 1989-92). She was a librarian and tutor at St. Charles Borromeo School, Albuquerque, N.M. (1983-85), tutor at St. Mary Magdalene School, Sorgho, Ky. (1985-86), Motherhouse librarian at Maple Mount (1986-89) and a tutor at Sacred Heart School, Lincoln, Neb. (1992-93). She retired to the Motherhouse in 1993.

Survivors include a brother, Adrian Wheatley, Hawesville; nieces, nephews and cousins, and the members of her religious community.

The funeral was at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11, at Mount Saint Joseph Chapel, with burial in the convent cemetery at Maple Mount. A wake service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel, where visitation began at 4 p.m.

Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory, Owensboro, is in charge of arrangements.
