Sister Mary Evelyn Duvall, 88, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died April 26 at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 70th year of religious life. She was a native of Sunfish, Ky.
Sister Mary Evelyn loved to travel, and was an excellent cook, seamstress, and craft maker. She was a teacher for 44 years, serving at the Kentucky schools at St. Lawrence (1949-51), St. Anthony in Browns Valley (1951-57), Immaculate Conception in Earlington (1957-59), St. William in Knottsville (1960-62), St. Rose in Cloverport (1962-65), Our Lady of Mercy, Hodgenville (1965-69), St. Pius, Owensboro (1970), and St. Romuald, Hardinsburg (1970-73). She also taught at Seven Holy Founders School in Affton, Mo., (1959-60), Sacred Heart School, Farmington, N.M., (1973-91), and St. Joseph School, San Fidel, N.M. (1991-93). She ministered as a housekeeper at the St. Charles convent in Bardwell (1943-44), at the St. Columba convent, Louisville (1946-48), and the St. Teresa convent, Glennonville, Mo., (1948-49); in the diet kitchen at Maple Mount (1944-46); as registrar at Catholic Academy (1993-95) and elderly care (1995-97) in Farmington, N.M., and as librarian at St. Francis of Assisi School in Gallup, N.M., from 1997 until her retirement in 2007.
Survivors include four sisters, Catherine Duvall and Martha Durbin, both of Sunfish, Mary Davis, Leitchfield, Ky., and Frances Heath, Mountain Home, Idaho; two brothers, Lawrence Duvall of Louisville, and William Pius Duvall, Brownsville, Ky.; nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
