Sister Ann Victoria Wasylina, 86, an Ursuline Sister of Mount Saint Joseph, died Oct. 12, 2010, at Mount Saint Joseph, in her 56th year of religious life.
She was born Irena Wasylina in Duliby Stryj in the Ukraine, then a part of Poland. In 1942, during the Nazi occupation, she went to Austria, where she lived and worked with a farm family until coming to the United States. She came to Mount Saint Joseph in March 1950 with her friends the Stelmach family, and became a sister in 1954.
She ministered at St. Columba Convent in Louisville and at Mount Saint Joseph, where she was in charge of the dairy for 29 years. The butter and cottage cheese she produced were legendary. From 1986-88, she served as minister to the sick in Grants, N.M. From 1988 until her retirement in 1995, she served in pastoral care and in hospitality at the Mount Saint Joseph Guest House.
She had a beautiful singing voice and often inspired the sisters and friends by singing her favorite hymn to Mary in Ukrainian.
She is survived by the members of her religious community.
