Lent Remembrances: Sister Marie Joseph Coomes wouldn’t let a muddy road keep her from church

With the wet weather of March making our paths muddy, Sister Marie Joseph Coomes’ memory of Lent as a child seems particularly appropriate as our latest in a series of “Lent Remembrances.”

“We had gravel roads, and in February and March during Lent, it was so muddy that the car would get stuck in the mud. So, I remember walking to Lenten Services with Dad and Granddad a few times. This was a mile and a half. Other people on the same road walked with us.

“Another memory was when Father Whelan led us through the Stations of the Cross. He said this prayer after the station: ‘Grant that I may love you always, and then do with me what thou will.’”
