June 2019 Saint Angela Reflection

A lovely gray dove has taken up residence on a window ledge outside the dining room in Saint Joseph Villa. It is a real meditation to watch her. First, she sat quietly on her eggs until they hatched. Now, she lovingly feeds her young.

It reminds me of Jesus saying, in the gospel of Saint Luke, that he longs to gather us as a mother hen gathers her chicks under her wings. We all, no doubt, have seen an artist’s depiction of that image. How lovely.

It reminds me of several things.

I would like to mention a few:

The motherly love of God revealed in Jesus.

The motherly peacefulness of a child as it rests on its mother’s lap.

The motherly love found in nature.

Don’t we all love those images? So peaceful. So quiet. So loving.

I hope you will have an opportunity to observe a mother dove. I hope it will speak to your heart as it does to mine.

Reflection:

What images of nature speak to you?

How do they nurture your spirit?
