Our hearts are grieving as we learn of the shootings in Monterey Park, Calif., another act of mass violence. We all feel helpless when facing this senseless destruction. But Jesus tells us in Matthew 5:4, “Blessed are they who mourn, for they will be comforted.” The Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph ask you to join us in the power of prayer, both for those who share our grief, and for solutions to stop these tragedies.

I join in prayer using the words of Saint John XXIII

    Lord Jesus Christ,
who are called the Prince of Peace,
who are yourself our peace and reconciliation,
who so often said, “Peace to you,”
    grant us peace.
Make all men and women witnesses of
truth, justice, and sisterly and brotherly love.
Banish from their hearts whatever might endanger peace.
Enlighten our rulers that they may guarantee
and defend the great gift of peace.
May all peoples of the earth becomes as brothers and sisters.
    May longed-for peace blossom forth
and reign always over us all.
    Amen.
