Are you as disturbed by the news of protests and demonstrations as I am? We live in a world where so many people think that the only way to get what you want is to take it by storm. That somehow by throwing a temper tantrum and making a scene they can change people’s minds. The truth is that change comes from the inside out. You can’t change someone who is not ready to change.
Henry Nouwen was deeply convinced that Jesus at His baptism heard, through God’s words of affirmation, “You are my Beloved on whom my favor rests,” these words became the decisive moment of Jesus’ public life. He was reminded of who he really is. Nouwen urges us to listen to the voice of Love that whispers to us, “You are the Beloved of God!”
This whole journey of Novitiate is a time to examine the heart through prayer and study to see if there are things in your life that you need to change in order to find the core of our being as the Beloved of God. Coming to the place of genuine love of yourself with both your strengths and weaknesses. Carrying with you the love of God everywhere you go. I challenge you to make this phase your mantra for the this week!
