Do you often begin Advent with good intentions to prepare spiritually for Christmas, only to find that those good intentions get lost in the busy-ness of family gatherings and the pressures of gift-giving?
This Advent retreat offers an opportunity to put good intentions into practice by taking time out of this hectic season to reflect on the event that Christians believe changed history forever—God becoming human in the Incarnation of Jesus. Mary, Jesus’ biological mother, will serve as our guide and companion for the day.
The retreat will include reflections on parts of the infancy narrative from the Gospel of Luke, beginning with Mary’s invitation to say “YES” to God’s call to give birth to the Messiah. Within a format of input sessions, quiet prayer, embodied prayer and small group sharing, retreatants will be encouraged to examine and apply to their own lives the virtues and attitudes of Mary: openness to the unexpected, courage, surrender, generosity, joy, willingness to endure hardship, and a serene peace that can only come from God.
This retreat will be led by Ursuline Sister Cheryl Clemons.
