Diocese of Owensboro honors Sisters celebrating jubilees

Each fall, the Steering Committee of the Council of Religious for the Diocese of Owensboro sponsors a celebration of the jubilees for the women religious in the diocese. This year’s event was held Oct 23, 2021, at St. Martin Catholic Church in Owensboro. Ursuline Sisters, a Glenmary Sister and a Carmelite Sister were honored, although not all jubilarians could attend. The celebration was canceled last year due to Covid, so jubilarians from both 2020 and 2021 were honored.

Bishop William Medley presided over the event and said the word that always touches him in the bible is the “tender” mercy of God.

“Our God is not portrayed as Zeus hurling lightning bolts,” Medley said. “Our God is a tender God. My experience of women religious, from my time as a child until now, is that the world is a more tender place because of … the life you’ve lived.”

Here are photos from the day.
