Deconstruction nearly complete on April 25; tall structures are down

Contractors completed taking down all the tall structures of the Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center on April 25, 2023. The only part of the building remaining is the former Gift Shop and post office in the 1962 Bloemer addition, but with so much debris to remove first, the contractors need to create room before taking down the building.

Much of the work on April 25 involved filling trucks with debris and sending them off to the Daviess County Landfill. Since the landfill is close by, trucks could be filled very 30 minutes all day long. Despite that, there is still a lot of debris to haul away. Metal has been separated for recycling in Owensboro, and another piece of equipment is arriving April 26 to help separate the debris further.

Below are photos and links to two videos. Father Ray Goetz, chaplain at Maple Mount, shot footage from his drone on the first day of deconstruction April 18, which offers a different vantage point. The second video shows the steps on April 24-25, beginning with the falling of the elevator tower.
