Build a Patchwork of Hope

Photos from the Building of the
‘Patchwork of Hope’ Quilt

On Monday, Feb. 28, we received our 1,000th donation
and completed the Patchwork of Hope quilt!

Below is a photo taken of the finished quilt top in the chapel
for the first Friday of March prayers.

Thank you all for your love and support of the Patchwork of Hope!

As of Feb. 15, we have received 935 donations for the Patchwork of Hope. We are almost to our goal of 1,000. Help us reach our goal and make a donation today, and add another piece to our quilt.

Through Jan. 12, donors have contributed 839 gifts to the Patchwork of Hope. Our next goal is to reach 1,000 donations.

The Patchwork of Hope quilt that has been completed so far is laid upon the altar in the Motherhouse Chapel during the First Friday prayer time Dec. 3. Sisters gather in the chapel to pray throughout the afternoon on the first Friday of the month.

Sister Amelia Stenger shows the sisters the progress of the Patchwork of Hope quilt on Dec. 2. As of this date, the quilt had 317 pieces.

Sister Susanne Bauer unstaples the pieces of cloth from the returned donation forms.

Sister Emerentia Wiesner works on sewing together the first quilt blocks from the returned pieces.

Did you know you can do some really marvelous things to fill others with hope? Your help can make the following things possible.

Sister Mimi teaches a woman in Chile how to knit a scarf she can sell to support her family; Sister Marilyn teaches her second graders how to do math; Sister Martha teaches her RCIA class about the Catholic Faith; Sister Fran teaches a woman English so she can talk to her doctors about her baby; Sister Raymond prays for all of them from her room in the retirement home. Each sister is sharing her gifts and talents. These sisters and 164 other Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph are fulfilling our Ursuline mission of education and faith formation. They are touching the lives of women, men, and children in so many ways. They are giving hope.

They are very much like the pieces of a patchwork quilt. Every piece has a purpose. When it is placed with many other pieces, it becomes something beautiful, useful, and meaningful to warm the body and the soul. Each sister does her ministry, but together as a community, we are striving to bring hope to those we serve. Will you become a partner in our mission?

We, Ursulines, serve in eight states and South America. We minister as teachers, religious educators, advocates for the powerless, and spiritual directors. We strive to bring hope and healing to the body, mind, and spirit of all we serve. We believe that together we make a difference for God’s people. With your help we can do even more.

With every donation to our Annual Fund, we are saving a piece of cloth. Your piece of cloth will be joined with others to make a beautiful patchwork quilt. One quilt will hang in our Chapel each First Friday during Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. We will pray especially for you, our benefactors and friends. Other quilts made from the pieces will become part of our Quilt of the Month program.

Your donations help build our patchwork of hope. You can help us make a difference.
