Academy/Retreat Center deconstruction nears completion

A month after deconstruction began on the former Mount Saint Joseph Academy and Retreat Center, workers believe they are only about a week away from completing their work.

A large hammer was used the week of May 15-19 to break up some existing concrete. Some large stones and a small pile of metal were all that awaited being hauled away on Friday, May 19. The next step is to fill in fresh dirt where the basement was, and then grass the area.

Once this work is completed, it’s hoped that deconstruction will begin in early June on Paul Volk Hall on the south side of campus. Rerouting of several utility lines must be completed before that work can begin, but plumbers and electricians are working now on that job.

Here are photos from May 18 and 19.
