Get Moving at the Mount 5K Run/Walk 2014

The inaugural Get Moving at the Mount 5K Run/Walk was a phenomenal success, as so many new friends joined with our long-time supporters and the Ursuline Sisters to run or walk the grounds and surrounding property at Maple Mount.

The final tally showed 160 competitors crossing the finish line on Cummings Road, with Steven Smith of Shepherdsville, Ky., as the overall winner. Janna Hendrix was the top female winner and finished fifth overall.

Participants began on the grounds of Maple Mount, home of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, running through campus before running out on Kentucky 56, which was closed for a short time for safety. The participants ran along the edge of the Ursuline Sisters’ property, turning on Mulligan Road, New Cut Road and finally onto Cummings Road for the finish line.

After the race, all participants gathered in the park for snacks and drinks and awaited the awarding of first and second place prizes, as well as door prizes.

The date for next year’s 5K is already set, May 30, 2015. As a special treat, the race will serve as the official 5K Run/Walk to celebrate the bicentennial of Daviess County. Make your plans now to attend.

Many thanks to all our volunteers and all those who came out to run or walk. We’ll see you next year.
