Evening with an Ursuline: Learning to See as the Mystics See

The first “Evening with an Ursuline Sister” presentation of 2015 was led by Sister Rose Marita O’Bryan on Jan. 6, “Learning to See as the Mystics See: A Primer.” Sister Rose Marita talked about living in the sacrament of the present moment and quoted from such acclaimed spiritual writers as Richard Rohr and Thomas Merton.

The next “Evening with an Ursuline” presentation is Feb. 3, with Sister Amelia Stenger discussing “The Art of Simplicity – Living a Simple Life.” The cost is $15, which includes dinner starting at 5:30 p.m.

Here are some pictures from the Jan. 6 event:

How I wished that I lived closer to the Mount and could participate in this series of classes. Richard Rohr is a man of great wisdom and insight…his writings came into my life at the perfect time.

Before I retired from teaching theology at Sacred Heart Academy (Louisville Ursulines) I developed a curriculum for a new semester course tentatively called Angela Merici: Charisms and Heritage. While the first ideas will be refined as teachers go forward, it seemed important that 21st century students discover the feminine spirituality models Angela may have known and considered in shaping her own unique vision. I live too far, but I would have loved to experience Sr. Rose Marita’s presentation. Topic choice left me feeling “in sync” with MSJ and Angela. Thanks, Sr. Rose Marita!
