Mission Effectiveness

MISSION EFFECTIVENESS

Mission effectiveness is the function that concerns itself with the articulation, application, and evaluation of identity and mission within the operational context of an organization. For the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph, this means that the director of mission effectiveness assists the president of Brescia University, the director of Mount Saint Joseph Conference and Retreat Center, and the Motherhouse administrator in their responsibility to maintain and integrate the Ursuline philosophy, mission, and vision in all aspects of the organizational life of each institution.

     Function

In order that Ursuline identity and mission are maintained in every facet of the organizational life of the three institutions, the director of mission effectiveness engages in the following tasks:

  • ensures mechanisms and resources that clarify identity and mission relative to the institution’s purpose, goals, values, structures, services, policies, and practices
  • designs, develops, and implements orientation programs
  • applies the identity and mission so that it permeates all aspects of the organization -- planning, decision-making, documents, processes, and programs
  • inspires and motivates others about Ursuline heritage and develops  a community of ministry, shared vision, values and energy

     Ursuline Values in the Workplace

We Ursulines accept specific values as integral to effectiveness in mission.  We believe that all persons are special, have intrinsic worth, and do their best in an atmosphere in which the dignity of each is affirmed and enhanced.  We believe that in our relationship with those who work with us we must show love and gentleness, encourage an honest work ethic and be committed to paying just wages.  We believe that those who work with us are receptive to embodying the Ursuline spirit of hospitality, simplicity, justice and service for the sake of a more just and loving society.

     Results of Mission Effectiveness

The Ursuline mission is made visible in the workplace when:

  • the heritage, mission and values are clearly articulated and modeled
  • formation of administrators and staff is adequate
  • an organizational climate which promotes a sense of community, affirmation and respect is created
  • a management style which reflects hospitality, simplicity, leadership, collegiality, flexibility and justice to all is preserved
  • all who minister with us experience a sense of belonging, understand their job expectations and how they contribute to the mission of the Ursuline Sisters of Mount Saint Joseph
